About UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India)

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a statutory authority established by the Government of India under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). It was created under the provisions of the Aadhaar Act, 2016 to issue and manage Aadhaar, India’s 12-digit unique identity number for residents.

Objectives

  • Provide every resident of India with a unique identity (Aadhaar).
  • Eliminate duplicate and fake identities.
  • Enable secure online identity authentication.
  • Improve transparency and efficiency in delivering government subsidies and welfare schemes.
  • Support Digital India initiatives through secure digital identity services.
